Randolph Remembers Brad
Once a Randolph Kid, Always a Randolph Kid
It is with great sadness and heartbreak that I share that Brad passed away in late June. His son, Marcus, was with him. In case you don’t know much about this wonderful man, I’d like to tell you more about him.
It is rather miraculous that Brad found Randolph. As Rebecca Burdett, a former teacher, remembers, he stumbled across the school’s area at a Clearwater Festival in 1987 and, captivated by the energy and excitement, promptly applied for a job.
Over the next 24 years Brad touched just about every segment of the school. To name only a few: he taught the youngest students all the way to high school (a program he was instrumental in creating), built the school’s first website, helped manage facilities and finances, was captain of the Halloween parade, organized the blood drive, taught photography, washed dishes, was den mother for the ski program, built a trebuchet with his students, was a Randolph parent, led many science-focused camp sessions, oversaw campus fire prevention, was Star Lab maestro, served on the Administrative Committee, and, of course, was “Mission Control” for his beloved rocket program.
After Brad left Randolph, he earned a degree in mathematics and went on to teach middle school math at Prospect Public School in West Hartford, CT. Luckily for us, since 2015, Brad also continued to serve on the Board of Directors sharing his wisdom, Randolph experience, and knowledge of both private and public school education.
This gentle, lovely, exuberant man will be missed.
