After
a while, it surprises no one that there are hundreds of languages in the
world. We communicate differently in the West (United States) than someone
in the East (Asia perhaps?). But what's amazing is that while we have many
advantages over animals (many would argue to say that we are not animals,
but i'd beg to differ), animals seem to be way ahead of us in communication.
An ant in the East probably could communicate with an ant in the west without
a problem. Hopefully, one day we will become as sophisticated as our inch-tall
friends.
In
the mean time, however, with hundreds of languages in the world, it helps
to know some of them. Thanks to Spanish classes I speak Spanish hesitantly
(I bet you thought I was going to say fluently! Ha ha!). I can also read,
write and speak (although not yet understand) hebrew, and was recently
Bar-Mitzvahed. Aside from languages, another form of communication is through
phone lines (these days through the Internet, and the World Wide Web).
I share some of my mac knowledge at the Mac Shack, which you can access
by clicking here.
My
choice of computer is the Macintosh, I have three at home, an iMac DVSE,
an iBook/500 and a Quadra 630. The Quadra was sent as a gift from a relative,
powerful enough to run a small server (software developers are still weary
about abandoning the 68K processor format that is still used by an huge
amount of people). The iMac replaced a Performa 6320 after a monitor glitch
inspired me to gut the entire machine, essentially ruining a computer that
was still worth a thousand dollars or so. My latest computer, the iBook
is great when I'm not at my main computer, and is actually more powerful
than my iMac. With a perfect balance between stability, good looks, ease
of use, power and price, my computers have become an incredible influence
on me and anyone who uses one.
Another
great love of mine is Rana, Spanish for Frog. I have two, Mel and Jumper.
I've had four frogs altogether, but two of them croaked (I can hear the
groans right through the screen). Kermit was a shy frog who would steal
Jumper's sleeping place and occasionally pay the price (Jumper was approximatly
50,000 times larger than Kermit :)). Tummy was the friendliest frog you'll
ever meet (if you met him), he's perfectly happy to watch me type from
his usual nesting place of my shoulder, or the 'heat rock' (my iMac). To
