Summer Program 2019

The Randolph Summer Program is designed to offer a diverse group of creative, fun and educational activities for children ages 3-13*. The camps focus on exciting new themes each week and are an extension of the progressive education that occurs all year. Together, we create a playful, cooperative work environment in which each child experiences a sense of accomplishment and a love of learning. Most of the week-long workshops culminate in an end-of-the-week exhibition or presentation.

Camp Hours

Short Day: 8:30-12:30 (Ages 3-5 only)

Full Day: 8:30-4:00 (Ages 3-5, 6-13)

 

Tuitions (per week)

Ages 3-5: $335 (Full Day) or $215 (Half Day)
Ages 6-13: $335 (+$25 Materials Fee for Rockets, +$10 Materials Fee for Cooking)
All campers will get a Randolph t-shirt to get dirty this summer!

Please Note: There is a $75 deposit required for each week. Non-refundable after June 1. Balance due on the first day of camp each week.

What’s the Buzz About Bees? (Ages 6-11) with Jesse

BEE our guest at the Randolph hive this summer and join us in learning about the pollinators that support many of the plants on earth! During the week we plan to study bees and other pollinators through games that will help build our understanding of how the insects function and how they interact within their communities. We will also taste and cook with honey, read books about bees and beekeeping, and act as beekeepers ourselves in tending to the school honeybee hives. Additionally, we will think of ways to support populations of various pollinators and work towards building a pollinator hotel. It will BEE a fabulous week!

Become a Scientist (Ages 3-5) with Samantha & Maria

Science--It’s everywhere! Step into the lab this week to become a scientist. Mixing, whisking, measuring, and observing are all key to a successful experiment. Come see how we can make fireworks in a jar, a tornado in a bottle, and work together to help a volcano erupt! Getting messy and dirty is all a part of the plan! As always we will have some creek fun in the afternoon to cool off! Join us as we dive into the world of Science!

Sports Mania! (Ages 6-11) with Jules & Felecia

Get those hearts pumping as we run around playing soccer, baseball, kickball, yard games and more! Throughout the week we will focus on team building, sportsmanship, and fairness. We will make yummy healthy snacks that will give us energy! Come and join the fun as we work up a sweat and learn how to play new games with new friends!

Creek Scouts Camp (Ages 6-11) with Evan & Amy

Who could ask for a more perfect place to learn about field ecology and develop camping, hiking, and wilderness survival skills than Randolph in the summertime? Join our Creek Scouts leaders for a week of nature study by the creek, fire-building and outdoor cooking, camouflage games and shelter building. Learn to identify native trees, safely start a campfire without matches, and use a map and compass. Study Native American culture and enjoy Native teaching myths. For every kid that loves outdoor adventures.

Beginning Builders (Ages 3-5) with Evan & Samantha

Today a block palace, a marble shoot, a Rube Goldberg domino rally….tomorrow the Hoover Dam!  From simple forms to superb structures—dream it, build it! Join our team of engineers to construct the Leaning Tower of Randolph.

Fiber Fun (Ages 6-11) with Renee & Anita

Are you ready for a week of fabulous Fiber Fun?  This camp will be craft central as we try out all sorts of fiber arts. Practice hand sewing and make your own pillow or stuffed critter. Learn how to turn fleece into felt. Make your own drop spindle and spin wool into yarn. Try your hand at knitting, weaving, dyeing, and so much more. It's sure to be a fantastically fun and fiber-filled week!

Paint-a-Palooza (Ages 3-5) with Samantha & Jesse

Come paint with friends and paint with toes.  Swirl and splat and paint your nose. Join us as we experiment with the many ways and many things there are to paint. We will create individual and group art while working both inside and out. Grab your brush and your sloppiest clothes.  Create a world where anything goes.

July 8-12


Harry Potter Camp (Ages 6-13) with Jules & Felecia

All aboard the Hogwarts Express! Witches and Wizards of all skill levels are welcome! Join HufflePuffs Felecia and Jules as we dive into the wonderful world of Harry Potter. Learn to play Quidditch, mix potions and create mythical creatures from clay. Carve your own wand, test your spell knowledge and practice writing with a real quill and ink! We’ll end the week watching the first movie with magical treats inspired from Hogwarts.

Books & Cooks (Ages 3-5) with Maria & Felecia

Dive into a week of yummy food and delightful stories! Each day we will highlight a different children’s book and make the recipe in that story. For example, Patricia Polacco’s book Thundercakes has a recipe for delicious chocolate cake with a surprise ingredient! Or Sun Bread by Elisa Kleven, or the classic story, Stone Soup. Our arts and crafts will be related to food and cooking also. At the end of the week, your child will come home with a recipe book, an apron, and a decorated toque (chef’s hat).

Fantastic Forts (Ages 6-11) with Mike & Jesse

Join us for a week of fort-making fun! We will transform the Randolph upstairs into a maze of magical fort creations!  For our indoor fort world, kids will use fabric, cardboard, tape, rope, and found objects to create their structure. Outdoors, we will use what nature provides, while spending lots of time cooling off at the creek and getting to know the local flora and fauna.  Happy building!

Calling all junior adventurers for a week of thrilling outdoor exploration at and around Randolph School! This camp is for intrepid young friends ready to learn about hiking, outdoor skills, native plants and animals, and environmental stewardship. We will take short excursions to the creek, sit under waterfalls, cook snacks on the campfire, play animal and camouflage games, and build natural shelters. We will explore Native American culture, enjoy stories about wild creatures, and gain a deeper understanding of the natural world we live in.

Psyched to Hike! (Ages 6-11) with Mike & Jules

Are you an explorer with a passion for experiencing new things? Do you enjoy the sights and sounds of nature or the calm of being in the woods? In this camp we will explore with you, all that the wilderness around the Randolph School has to offer us! We will hike down to the creek and through the forest to discover and uncover the creatures that live in our rich habitat. During our adventures, we will use observational drawings and journaling to record what we’ve seen, heard, and touched. We will also be mapping our hikes, and the landmarks and landforms that we come across. Put on your hiking boots, and get ready to experience the wonderful world of hiking!

Kitchen Camp (Ages 6-11) with Samantha & Maria

At Randolph, the kitchen is a classroom and maker space.  In the kitchen, we get to learn about science, practice reading and writing recipes and apply our math skills to the ingredients lists.  But unlike other parts of school, we actually get to eat what we make in the kitchen! Join us this summer to learn how to follow recipes and how to create your own!  Bring your skills and samples home with you to share. Now this is fun you can taste!

Water, Water Everywhere (Ages 3-5) with Jules & Maria

The wonders of water will be our play.  We will explore its properties through experiments and games.  Does it boil, freeze, flow, float, or splash? We will find out through art, experiments, and natural observation.  Join us for a week of fun. Don't forget a bathing suit, water shoes, and many changes of clothes.

Master Builders (Ages 6-11) with Evan & Mike

Welcome to the Great Randolph Building Show, Season 1. This new offering is for enthusiastic Master Builders ready to take their skills and creations to the next level. We will construct on every scale from tiny architectural blocks to monumental outdoor sculptures and discover what we can make with thousands of Lego bricks or unit blocks. Build a marble chute that fills an entire room and extends out the door and down the stairs! Experiment with ancient methods and simple machines to lift a boulder into the air! Learn to use real tools and modern materials to build s functional play structure on the playground.

July 29-August 2


Superheroes (Ages 3-5) with Jules & Felecia

Superheroes Assemble! Come join us as we think, create and transform into our own superheroes. We will design our own masks and capes to become our own characters. We will have to conquer an obstacle course that will test all your super strength and agility! Each superhero will have their own special page in a camp comic book that will be sent home at the end of the week. Hope to see you there!

Farm to Fork (Ages 6-11) with Jesse & _____

Get in touch with your food in every way.  We'll be learning about gardening and foraging, exploring foods that grow locally and discussing sustainability.  But the best part is that we're going to take all we've learned and explored and turn it into a magical meal!  Join SCA-educated Jesse to capture the magic of the Hudson Valley in a bowl...or a plate...or a cup....and onto the end of your fork.

Rockets Week 1 (Ages 6-13) with Mike & Evan

Move over, Darth Vader. Beam us up, Captain Kirk. Rocket Scientists will come together for a week of design and experimentation.  Engineers will build their own rockets and do a variety of experiments to understand the principles of propulsion. Sign up for one, two, or three weeks. Then, at the end of each week, we will have a launch day that will rival anything at Cape Canaveral. Come and study the secrets of space and beyond! Ground control to Major Tom… Please Note:  We ask parents to coordinate rides from Randolph to Memorial Park in Beacon for our launch on Friday August 9. Launch time is at 10:00 am. Children are invited to come back to Randolph & finish out their camp day or leave from the launch.

Puppets! (Ages 3-5) with Jules & Felicia

Join Felecia and Jules with a week of puppet fun! We will use a variety of materials to create and design our very own puppets. Throughout the week we will explore sock puppets, finger puppets and shadow puppets among others. Kids will design their own stages and perform throughout the week. As always we will enjoy our playground and hike to the creek for some water fun! We hope you will join us!

August 12-16


Rockets Week 2 (Ages 6-13) with Mike & Jesse

Continue your rocket from Week 1 or start a new one. Two weeks to build that super rocket you’ve never had the time to make before. Use a kit or design your own. Try those funky fins. Pack a powerful chute. Sign up for one, two, or just one. Then we will launch the rockets at the end of the week on Friday, August 16,  BLAST OFF! Please Note: We ask parents to coordinate rides from Randolph to Memorial Park in Beacon for our launch on Friday August 10th. Launch time is at 10:00 am. Children are invited to come back to Randolph & finish our their camp day or leave from the launch.

Best of Randolph! (Ages 6-11) with Renee & Maria

Join Maria and Renee in cooking, gardening, walking to the creek, building, arting, singing, exploring, writing, reading, playing games, inventing and discovering...this is a week when we will revisit and reimagine some of the school year & our favorite Upstairs activities. If you are new to Randolph, you will get a taste of everything Randolph. Of course, we will walk to the creek, so be sure to bring sunscreen, bug spray, bathing suit, towel and change of clothes, snack, lunch and water bottle.

 

August 12-16

All campers should bring...

A lunch, a snack, and a water bottle. Kids should also bring sunscreen, insect repellent, a towel, bathing suit, hat, and water shoes. And for younger children, please send in a complete change of clothes.

All children must be fully toilet-trained and out of pull-ups.
