This spring I started my internship with Jason at the bardavon working sound
and lights. The first was Loretta Switt, which was a one-woman play, I hated
the show but it was fun to see the pickiest people at the Bardavon ever. Then
I worked the Patty LaBelle show which was singing and the show was alright.
My favorite show of all was the last one of the year and it was David Byrne,
which was singing of course.
With the Loretta Swite show I helped focus the lights and learned very quickly
how to use their light board. To focus the lights I had to use a mini board
that is on the stage to turn on and off the lights and then guys on ladders
moved them around to where her lighting designer wanted them. Then I set up
the stage with all of the props and markers. Then half way through the show
we had to do a set change and I helped change that around. Then right after
that we had to race out to the marquee and change that from Loretta Switt to
Patty LaBelle.
So for the Patty LaBelle show I watched the guy work the lights for the show
and helped out with the spot for a little while. I also hung around the sound
guy for a while while they were setting up. During this show I learned how to
use the light board more and learned a lot about to listen to sound and how
to fix the problems.
Then I worked the David Byrne concert which was great. All I did for this show
was basically set up, take down and load the truck. His guys did everything
else. But it was fun and the show was great so it was worth my time.
I think for this internship I learned a lot and really couldn’t have done
it much better. There are only two things I could think of. I could have started
the internship a little sooner. I also could have not gone to Frisbee and gone
to the Bradavon and got more out of it but Frisbee is the only time I get to
play good sports.
