Upper School Digital Portfolios
Throughout the year, high school students collect
and document their work. They learn how to create digital portfolios
in the form of web sites. In creating a digital portfolio, each
student shows and reflects on what s/he has learned throughout the
year. Because the portfolio includes actual examples of a student’s
work (which could be a final product or even the student’s
process in developing the product), it also provides a way for teachers,
students and families to authentically assess a student’s
learning.
In the digital portfolio class, students learn how
to use the web design software Macromedia Dreamweaver and the image
creation/manipulation software Adobe Photoshop. They design a portfolio
which includes an introduction/personal statement and sections on
academics, internships, projects, learning plans, and community
involvement. For each class or learning experience, students describe
the goals and activities for the class, write reflections on what
they learned, and include evidence of their work. During each session,
students learn how to use the software to create links, insert images,
make buttons, and design all aspects of their portfolio web sites.
